The City of Plantation has Ordinances that all guests, residents, and businesses must follow. Residents includes homeowners, their family within the residence, and all occupants of single and multi-use rental properties. Businesses includes property owners or tenants renting or leasing commercial space. Guests includes anyone within the City of Plantation jurisdiction.

Spring Topics – 2026
Over the last several years, the City has invested in providing a safer pedestrian experience within our beautiful community. We used federal funds to have our engineering contractor walk throughout the city and note any areas of concern for safety. Unsafe sidewalks were repaired and ADA compliant crossing areas were installed. This summer, our Code Enforcement Officer worked with our preferred public works contractor to note tree branches, bushes, lawn edges, or other miscellaneous items that would inhibit pedestrian traffic on sidewalks. Our contractor trimmed tree branches and bushes that overhung the sidewalk and edged lawns throughout the city. Phase I and Phase II of our Pedestrian Safety plans are now complete.

PHASE III – PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PLAN
Parking across sidewalks is not allowed per Ordinance Chapter 72. Moving forward, our Code Enforcement officer and Security service will be issuing citations or having vehicles towed for blocking sidewalks. Neighbors and guests have the right-of-way to sidewalks. Please ensure your vehicles, boats, trailers, or other items are not blocking the sidewalks to contribute to our pedestrian safety plan.
Spring Enforcement
Now that the trees have been trimmed and lawns have been edged, it is now the homeowner’s (or their designee’s) responsibility to maintain the appropriate passage parameters. Per Chapter 92 of the City Ordinances:
ยง 92.01 TREES, SHRUBS AND OTHER GROWTH.
(A) It is to the interest of the city to look after the welfare of the citizenry as well as their safety.
(B) It is to the interest of the city to enact the necessary legislation to prevent any accident by eliminating hazardous conditions.
(C) All trees and shrubs should be trimmed in such a manner as to prevent accidents by the people making use of the sidewalk.
(D) Trees and shrubs should be trimmed if extending over the street in an effort to prevent accidents by the public making use of the street.
(E) Any trees or shrubs near an intersection that obscures vision by a motorist must be trimmed.
(F) Any tree or shrubs within the dedicated right-of-way must have dead limbs removed.
(G) Any tree or shrub within the dedicated right-of-way or abutting the right-of-way that has died must be removed at the expense of the abutting property owner.
(H) Should any abutting property owner fail to comply in correcting a situation, wherein the property owner has been advised, will be given 3 weeks to correct the condition unless additional time is granted by the City Engineer or other city official designated.
(I) If a property owner fails to comply with a reasonable request to correct a bad condition, the city will advise property owner the city will have the condition corrected and bill the property owner for actual cost.
(J) This section takes effect upon its passage and approval and publication thereof.
